Terena Caryk is a program coordinator and instructor in The English Language Program at The University of Winnipeg. Over the past 14 years, Terena has taught EAL to Canadian Language Benchmark level 1-8 adult learners and worked as an EAL teacher for K-12 students in the public school system. Terena holds a B.Ed. and a M.Ed. (TESL) from The University of Calgary.


Scott Poole attended the University of Manitoba where he completed a BA in English Literature.  He then went on to get a Journalism Diploma at Vancouver Community College, as well as a B.Ed from Lakehead University and a M.Ed in L2 Language and Literacy from Deakin University  Scott spent 6 years in Hong Kong as part of the NET Scheme and then moved to Korea to work at Inha University for 9 years.  It was at Inha that he became interested in Writing Centre Theory and the use of Peer Conferences to improve writing. Since relocating to Winnipeg in 2013, he has been coordinating and teaching in The University of Winnipeg's EAL Teacher Certificate Program.  


Erica Kolomic completed her B.A/B.Ed and CTESL certification through the University of Winnipeg. She has taught English as an Additional Language to learners of all ages, in China, Japan, Winnipeg, and rural Manitoba. She currently works as the Full Time Instructor at the University of Winnipeg English Language Program, currently teaching Academic Level 5. She is also working towards her M.Ed in Second Language Education at the University of Manitoba.


Angela Johnston is a TESOL Instructor and Head of Academic at ILAC Vancouver. A former ESL teacher, Angela has more than a decade of experience in teacher training and professional development. 


Lauren Strachan is a PhD student in Applied Linguistics at Concordia University in Montreal, TESOL instructor, and ESL instructor with 12 years of teaching experience. Her research interests include the acquisition of second language morphology, pronunciation, the impact of second language social networks on learning, and connecting teachers with SLA research findings.


Fluent in four languages, Monele Schrot has gained extensive experience of all aspects of education through her career as a Teacher, School Principal and Director of International Education. Ms. Schrot holds a BA, B.Ed., and a Master’s Degree in School Administration from the University of Manitoba. Before joining ICEF, Ms. Schrot was Director of the International Education Department for ten years at the Louis Riel School Division in Winnipeg, Manitoba.


Lead Canadian Specialist: Sarah Mines has over 12 years of experience in international education leadership, specializing in developing and maintaining international partnerships for Canadian institutions. With an extensive background in all aspects of internationalization, Sarah has in-depth knowledge of global education trends for the language, K-12 and post-secondary sectors. Sarah has a keen understanding of international student recruitment and retention and has presented at over 30 different conferences on topics ranging from marketing to millennials to global student mobility projections. She is known as a natural communicator and connector and currently sits on the Board of Directors for Vancouver Mount Pleasant Riding Association, and is a founding member of GLOW Ed, Canada’s first leadership organization for Global Women in Education.


Jennifer Wilson is the Managing Director for the Canada Homestay Network.  After retiring from a practice as a Registered Midwife in 2005, Jennifer joined the family business.  She holds an MBA with a specialization in Leadership and is always looking for new opportunities to learn and grow.  As a second-generation leader of CHN, Jennifer is passionate about creating opportunities for building relationships, and believe that homestay offers a unique opportunity for all of us to break down cultural barriers and make the world a smaller place.


As the founder of Higher Education Marketing, Philippe Taza provides digital marketing solutions for education institutions at all levels, including language schools all over the world. A certified digital analyst with over 15 years of experience in the sector, Philippe specializes in Google Analytics, Education Lead Generation, and Search Engine Optimization, and oversees a team of 25 digital marketing specialists that includes dedicated web development, SEM, content marketing, social media, and project management teams.            


Ernest Mulvey has been the Director of International Education at Algonquin College since 2011. He is responsible for leading the College’s internationalization strategy. He has held a variety of positions in administration and teaching in the Canadian college system, including academic Chair at Algonquin College and teaching positions at the University of Ottawa and the Cégep de l'Outaouais. He managed for 10 years for profit educational businesses and currently sits on the Board of Governors for Languages Canada. Ernest earned his master’s degree in education from the University of Ottawa (Ottawa, Ontario) and a Bachelor of Arts (political science) from the University of Regina (Regina, Saskatchewan).              


Dr. Denise Abreu-e-Lima is a Professor in the Faculty of Letters at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar) and has been President of the Brazilian federal program Languages without Borders at the Ministry of Education since 2012. She was President of the Brazilian Board of Open University Coordinators (CAPES, 2011-12.) Dr. Abreu-e-Lima received the Distinguished Humphrey Leadership Award for the Languages without Borders Program in 2016, and a Noble Partnerships award for the Languages without Borders Program by the Canadian Embassy in Brazil in 2017. Dr. Abreu-e-Lima possesses a post doctorate in Distance Education from Purdue University(USA), a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Campinas (Brazil.)


Dr. Waldenor Moraes is a Professor of Linguistics and Director of International Affairs at the Federal University of Uberlandia, and Vice-President of the Brazilian federal program Language Without Borders Program at the Ministry of Education. He was President of the Brazilian Council of Provosts for Undergraduate Studies from 2010-2012. Dr. Moraes has a degree in English language teaching and learning from the University of Brasília, and an MA in English and PhD in Linguistics from the University of São Paulo. He developed post-doctoral studies on internationalization and language policies at the University of Ottawa and supervises MA and PhD theses in the field of teacher education, teaching and learning of English, the use of emerging technologies, language policies and internationalization of higher education.


Anthony Stille is the President of the English School of Canada (ESC), a private language school that has been welcoming students to Toronto from around the world since 1999. Anthony has over 25 years of experience in international education. He has been an active voice for the language training industry in Canada and is a current board member of Languages Canada, where he co-chairs the International Affairs Committee.


Samuel Vetrak is the Founder and CEO of StudentMarketing, and a renowned industry strategist. StudentMarketing is a global market intelligence and strategic development company specializing in international student sector. The company provides comprehensive insights on global student mobility patterns and market trends, and helps governments, destinations, associations, investors, institutions, educators, service providers and other stakeholders to succeed in the global international education market. Lauren Kennedy-Barrows is a Senior Product Development Specialist and Assistant Manager of the Test Research and Development Division at Paragon Testing Enterprises. At Paragon she supervises the teams that create and score the CELPIP-General Test, the CAEL tests, and the LPI. Lauren has over ten years of professional experience in the test development industry, and has developed language tests for several branches of the US and Canadian Governments, including the Foreign Service Institute, Defense Language Institute, Department of Education, and FBI in the United States, and the Public Service Commission in Canada. Ms. Barrows has an MA in Linguistics and Applied Language Studies and a TESL Certificate from Carleton University.


A former international student in Canada, Ganesh Neelanjanmath carries varied work experience as a programmer, business analyst, and project manager from India, Spain, US and Canada. Having gone through the international student journey himself, understanding the challenges and pain points involved, Ganesh founded iCent, the international student app. The app today, caters to over 200 campuses and thousands of students; language schools, school boards, community colleges and universities use the app to delivery information and communicate & collaborate with their students.


Nicole Poirier is the manager of the provincial francophone Community College of New Brunswick Language Learning Centre (CCNB-CAL).  Specializing in second languages, she has over 20 years of experience teaching both ESL and FSL programs.  She has worked at CCNB since 1996 as an ESL and FSL instructor, curriculum developer, CLBPT assessor as well as various managerial positions related to languages.  She is a member of TESL NB as well as past co-president and serves on the National Language Advisory Board(NLAB) advisor for IRCC.  Her passions include immigration education and finding innovative delivery and client focused solutions.


Uri Carnat, as Country Director for IDP Education Canada, is responsible for overseeing IDP activity and growth in Canada, including secondary and post-secondary student-recruitment partnerships and the IDP, co-owned IELTS exam.  Before moving to IDP, Uri ran 12 private language centres in Canada and the US.


Suzannah DiMarco is a Process Improvement Consultant at Algonquin College in Ottawa, Ontario. With a passion for continuous improvement and an uncompromising commitment to respect for people, Suzannah coaches senior executives and model team leaders in the adoption of Lean principles using the AC Way, Algonquin’s unique adaptation of Lean in higher education. Drawing on her 20 years of healthcare experience, Suzannah adapts and promotes continuous improvement and respect for people, placing strong emphasis on the student experience. Suzannah joined Algonquin College in 2013 as Administrator to the President and Board of Governors and has since earned a Master of Arts, Leadership, and a Green Belt Lean certification. She serves as coach to the Vice President Innovation & Strategy and the Vice President Finance & Administration. Suzannah’s strengths lie in forging strong personal connections with leaders and employees, knowledge sharing at the front-line level, and motivating teams in their continuous improvement journeys. Suzannah is a regular contributor to Algonquin College’s AC Way/Lean website where she and the AC Way Team blog about the College’s journey towards a continuous improvement mindset and behaviours that promote respect for people.



Linda Stuart is the Education and Training Specialist for Sentio Global Education Network, a subsidiary of AFS Intercultural, Inc. where she manages the Global Competence Certificate.  She is President of Alma, Inc. and previously was Global Citizens Network’s Executive Director. Linda is a Qualified Administrator of the IDI, GCI, IES and holds an executive coaching certificate from the U of MN.  Linda has an MA from the University of Chile and a BA from Augsburg University.

Christina Furtado, MACP is a Mental Health Counsellor in the areas of addiction, anger management, behavioural intervention, self-esteem, mood-related disorders, and anxiety and trauma-related disorders. With experience in inpatient mental health, inpatient addiction rehabilitation centres and in the education sector, she is an Account Manager with the keep.meSAFE Program by guard.me. Christina is a practicing member of the OACCPP since 2015 and continues to be involved in various mental health initiatives across Canada.


Dr. Sabiha Khuram is a Global Consultant for IELTS Teacher Training Workshops for the British Council. She is a multi-lingual educator with extensive teaching and management experience in various secondary and post secondary settings. Dr. Khuram has a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Northern Washington University (USA) and a double Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership / English Language Teaching from the University of Nottingham (UK) and Kinnaird College for Women (Pakistan.)


Carolina Almeida is a Regulated Immigration Consultant (RCIC), and member in good standing of the ICCRC. As the Compliance Specialist at ILAC Toronto, Carolina has over four years of experience in the international education industry, monitoring and advising the school on immigration related matters, including compliance reporting and immigration status of their students.


Jonathan Alward is the Director of Provincial Affairs for the Manitoba branch of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB). Since 2016, he has led the Federation’s legislative agenda and served as the government lobbyist and media spokesperson for CFIB’s 4,800 Manitoba small and medium-sized business members. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship, both from the University of New Brunswick.


Janice Storozuk is a Business Counsellor with CFIB. Since 1995, Janice has been assisting CFIB members in Manitoba and across the country with information, tips and problem-solving service to help their businesses be successful. Originally from Dryden, Ontario, Janice received a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Degree from the Faculty of Management at the University of Manitoba.


Meti Basiri is Co-Founder & CMO at ApplyBoard. The company was founded by a group of international students who faced the obstacles applying to universities and colleges in North America first-hand, and decided to revolutionize the recruitment process. Meti’s journey as an international student was an eye-opener in the international education and recruitment market. Drawing from past experiences as an international student, he works towards bridging gaps in the international education and recruitment market in high hopes that one day, every student will have equal access to quality education. For ApplyBoard, education is a right, not a privilege. In the last three years ApplyBoard has helped thousands of students enter US and Canadian schools where the company has over 1,000 partner institutions. With 110+ employees and having raised more than CA$17 million in venture capital the Waterloo-based company hosted Canada’s Minister of Immigration, the Honourable Ahmed Hussen, in their office. They are now working closely with the Canadian government to see how to help and make education more accessible.


Julio Ronchetti is the president of FPP EDU Media, a company he started in 1997 in Brazil to become one of the largest study abroad recruitment fairs organization in the world. Beginning his career as an exchange student himself, he developed 30 years of extensive experience in the field of international education first as a student adviser (Agent) then as a marketing consultant. Julio used his experience to open FPP which soon launched the first study abroad website in Latin America back in 1997. In 2009 FPP launched EDUFINDME.com the first Social Media for Education website and in 2012 introduced the concept of technologically “smart” events in the education industry.


Wendy Luther, President & CEO, EduNova – Wendy joined the EduNova team as President & CEO in October 2012. EduNova is a co-operative association of public and private-sector education providers in Nova Scotia, Canada committed to promoting Nova Scotia’s knowledge economy internationally, with a focus on attracting and retaining international students. EduNova was honoured with the PIEoneer Association of the Year Award in 2017.

Wendy previously held roles in export development at the Atlantic Canada World Trade Centre and Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI) where she led the charge to help service sector companies and education and training organizations close deals in export markets. During her time at NSBI, through her role as Nova Scotia’s first Private Sector Liaison Officer (PSLO) with the World Bank and Inter-American development Bank, Wendy worked to connect entrepreneurs and institutions to opportunities funded by the International Financial Institutions.

Born in Vancouver, Wendy graduated with an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of British Columbia, an MBA from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia and holds a Certified International Trade Professional designation. 


Matthew Badrov is a skilled lawyer whose practice is focused on the representation of management in many areas of employment and labour law. Widely published, Matthew is regularly asked to speak on a range of topics related to his practice and has taught labour law at Conestoga College.

Matthew is a member of various associations including the  Canadian Bar Association, Ontario Bar Association, (Labour & Employment, Construction, Civil Litigation, Constitutional, Civil Liberties & Human Rights, Workers’ Compensation, Young Lawyers) and the Law Society of Ontario. While at law school, Matthew received the J.W. Whiteside Award in recognition of outstanding service to the Faculty of Law and community of Windsor. He began his career as a student with Sherrard Kuzz LLP during which time he completed a secondment with the Ontario Labour Relations Board.


Cindy Brouillette is the assistant director for the international student program on the operational side at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.  Cindy has been with IRCC since 2006 where she held various high profile positions. In 2010, she helped to create an office to process applications for Haitian Nationals who were affected by the earthquake. Cindy has also worked for the Deputy Minister’s office of IRCC where she was performing the liaison between the Minister’s office and the Department of IRCC. She holds a bachelor in Business administration and an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA).


Edgar Aldrin Bartolome is a Senior Policy/Program Advisor at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. Edgar has been with IRCC since 2015 and has worked for the Government of Canada in various positions since 2010. He holds a bilingual Master of Public and International Affairs (MPIA) degree from the Glendon School of Public and International Affairs – York University, a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in French Studies and Linguistics, and an International Studies Certificate, both from Queen’s University at Kingston.


Dr. Paul MacLeod has years of leadership and teaching experience in Canada, Asia and the Middle East. Currently, he is the program coordinator for Assiniboine International at Assiniboine Community College in Brandon, MB. He holds a BED, MED, MA and Ed. D. He is preparing “A new framework of enhancing academic integrity” for publication. He has presented at numerous international conferences including Teachers of English as a Second or Other Language (TESOL), TESL Canada, the World Economic Forum, the World Appreciative Inquiry conference and the Center for Academic Integrity. His research interests include learner engagement, creativity, appreciative inquiry and academic integrity.
